FDA Emergency Use Authorization

What is an Emergency Use Authorization by the FDA?

We have recently heard about the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) granting or considering granting Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for medications to be used in the fight against COVID-19.  Do you know what EUA is and how it’s granted? The FDA has released a short video to quickly explain how the process works.

You probably heard the term for the first time when the FDA granted EUA for hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine and most recently as they applied it to the antiviral medication remdesivir from Gilead Sciences.  We rely on the FDA to ensure products and medications are safe and effective.  Below is a video explaining how the FDA utilizes this process to make important medical products available during a public health crisis such as the current COVID-19 pandemic.
