The Six Most Common Deficiencies in ASC Surveys

A majority of commonly cited deficiencies in recent surveys are directly related to medication management.

Do you know what the top deficiencies were? How does your facility oversee pharmaceutical services and patient safety to avoid survey deficiencies?

Each year the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC) releases their Quality Roadmap, a report on accreditation survey results. As we analyze the report and compare it to previous versions, one thing becomes apparent…although we have made some improvements, we are still struggling with many areas related to safe medication management and infection control.

The latest Quality Roadmap provides data from over 1700 surveys for facilities undergoing initial accreditation, or reaccreditation. Although the deficiencies vary slightly between surveys that are Medicare Deemed-Status and those who are not, they are similar. In this week’s client newsletter, we review the list of the most common deficiencies, what surveyors are finding and citing and some suggestions to avoid deficiencies. For a complete list, or if you just need us to point you in the right direction, reach out to us. We’re always happy to hear from you.
