The United States Pharmacopeia (USP) has announced the delay of Chapters <795>, <797>, and <825>. How does this impact Chapter <800>? Will it impact your facility? Our consultant pharmacists can help guide you to ensure compliance.
In our September 12th post “Is Your Facility Prepared for USP compliance? Here are Some Suggestions from a Consultant Pharmacist.”, we discussed the release of USP Chapter <800> which was scheduled for implementation December 1, 2019. Because USP received appeals on certain provisions in Chapters <795>, <797>, and <825>, they announced postponement of the official release of the revised <795> and <797>, and the new general Chapter <825> until further notice.
Will USP <800> also be delayed?
USP Chapter <800> is not the subject of any appeals and will still go into effect on the originally scheduled date of December 1, 2019. The major change, as a result of the recent announcement, is Chapter <800> will be released for informational purposes only, pending the appeal of USP <795> and <797>. Despite this change, USP is still encouraging facilities to use Chapter <800> in the interest of advancing public health.
Facilities should also keep in mind that although USP is releasing Chapter <800> for informational purposes, certification and accreditation organizations may still expect full compliance.
